Rony finalmente desencantou.

INEOS now holding "discussions" about signing "complete" midfield target for Man Utd

Whilst last weekend’s performance against Arsenal showed plenty of promise despite defeat, Manchester United and INEOS are still reportedly discussing the chance to welcome a midfield reinforcement.

Man Utd line up new targets after Baleba price proves prohibitive

Having been told that Carlos Baleba is not for sale unless they reach a premium price this month, Manchester United have been left with no choice but to pivot towards other targets. With less than two weeks remaining until deadline day, however, it remains to be seen whether Ruben Amorim welcomes the last reinforcements that he needs to take his side back into European contention.

Brighton & Hove Albion's CarlosBalebain action with Manchester City's Mateo Kovacic

The two main weaknesses that the Red Devils must address lie in midfield and in goal. Of course. Baleba was earmarked to solve that midfield problem, but the Brighton & Hove Albion star is off the table for the time being. As such, targets such as Lucien Agoume have threatened to steal the headlines, with reports going as far as to say that the Sevilla star is now United’s priority target.

Meanwhile, Amorim’s goalkeeper problem was exposed for all to see against Arsenal. Choosing to go with Altay Bayindir over Andre Onana, who missed much of pre-season through injury, the Manchester United boss watched on as his second-choice flapped at Arsenal’s first corner of the game to hand them what proved to be the winning goal through Riccardo Calafiori.

It’s a problem that INEOS must solve before the end of the month with the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma still on the market and available if they manage to leap ahead of rivals Manchester City in the race for his signature.

What’s more, alongside Donnarumma to solve their goalkeeper problem, reports are also now suggesting that Agoume isn’t the only Baleba alternative being discussed at Old Trafford this summer to hand Amorim a much-needed midfielder.

INEOS hold internal discussions about Angelo Stiller

According to Ben Jacobs and Sam Cohen, INEOS have now held “internal discussions” about signing Angelo Stiller from VfB Stuttgart this month. The German impressed in the Bundesliga last season and has since found himself on United’s radar as a result. And whilst talks are yet to be held between the two clubs, the Stuttgart star is potentially one to watch as deadline day approaches.

Described as a “complete and capable” midfielder by analyst Ben Mattinson, Manchester United could certainly do a lot worse than signing Stiller this summer.

The German midfielder is unlikely to cost the same premium fee as Baleba, but would offer Amorim a similar upgrade on current options like Manuel Ugarte this season.

'Wow, what a feeling!' – Mikel Arteta left giddy after late Arsenal win over Newcastle as he praises 'difficult' Magpies

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was in high spirits at full-time after his Arsenal side came from behind late on to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Goals from Mikel Merino and Gabriel proved the difference, with the Gunners boss crediting Newcastle United for how tough they made it for his side throughout the game. The Magpies led for over 50 minutes before ultimately finding themselves on the end of a late Gunners comeback, inspired by changes made by Arteta in the second period.

  • Arsenal left it late – but good value for comeback win

Arteta spoke in his post-match interview on BBC Match of the Day about the emotion he felt in the late victory as Gabriel rose highest to head home in the 96th minute and earn his side the three points.

It may have taken until the very last to secure the win, but Arsenal were good value for the points. Arteta named an attacking line-up including a return to the side for Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze, who were both involved in a lot of good play in a strong opening half hour by the visitors. Nick Pope would prove to be in inspired form, though, up until Arsenal turned the game around with a pair of late goals to win 2-1.

Arteta was left ecstatic at the victory, which brought Arsenal to within two points of leaders Liverpool, while star man and captain for the day Bukayo Saka criticised VAR’s decision to overturn a first-half penalty call on Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal overcome tough Newcastle test to pile pressure on rivals

This was a tough test for Arsenal, no doubt. They had lost at St James’ Park on each of their last three visits and it was close to becoming a fourth in a row, without a single goal scored – until Merino and Gabriel had other ideas. It was two corners which would prove the difference, their 11th and 12th corners of the day, as the Gunners fought until the end.

They have a set of more favourable fixtures coming up and their perceived mixed start to the season is now looking a whole lot more impressive. With four points won late on in their last two fixtures and a host of new signings performing admirably in recent weeks, there is certainly cause for optimism as Arsenal seek a first Premier League title since 2004.

Newcastle made things tough for their visitors and Arteta paid respect to this at full-time. The Magpies have the tough task of balancing Champions League football with their league campaign this term and will be encouraged by the fact that record £69million ($92m) signing Nick Woltemade has already scored twice for his new club, putting his massive 6ft 6in frame to good use with clinical headed goals against the Gunners and Wolves – though his exploits would not be enough to secure a result on this occasion.

  • Arteta's words after Arsenal victory

Arteta told BBC Match of the Day: "To win in the manner that we have done it, wow what a feeling! Football is about emotion and going through things and today we had a beautiful one at the end of the match."

On scoring from the 11th and 12th corners: "We generated so much from open play in various many ways. [Nick] Pope was incredible today, he denies us goals. Praise Newcastle for the team that they are, the way that they compete, how difficult they make it for you."

Gunners can use platform ahead of important winter period

Arsenal’s blend of set-piece mastery and blossoming open-play creativity stands them in good stead as we enter the busy winter period of the season. A series of London derbies lie in wait, and it will be intriguing to see who leads the way at the top of the Premier League table come November.

For Arsenal and Arteta, it may be now or never. Previous excuses about striking options and injuries impacting squad depth are no longer there to fall back on. The Gunners’ mission this term is clear: win, or face increasing scrutiny from all angles. From the evidence thus far, they are on the right track.

"Brilliant" – Brendan Rodgers hails player who has heart set on Celtic transfer

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has called a Hoops transfer target “brilliant” ahead of their Champions League qualifier with Kairat Almaty.

Rodgers addresses Celtic transfers before Champions League qualifier

So far in the 2025 summer transfer window, those at Parkhead have signed seven new players and still have time for further incomings and outgoings ahead of the September 1 deadline.

It has been two weeks since their most recent arrival, 19-year-old Manchester City loan defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, and Rodgers is focused on getting past the Kazakh opposition with familiar players.

Rodgers was asked if he would get the signings he was looking for when the board discover whether they have Champions League income.

“I’m not going to get into a situation where I look frustrated or am frustrated because that transfers on to the players that I have, and those guys have been brilliant.

“If we get somebody in, great. If not, then we’ll go with what we’ve got. We’ll do everything we can to try and ensure all the details are right for the game and see if we can take Celtic back into the Champions League again.

“I’ve had no injuries and I believe that the quality of our game and the intensity that we want to work at can hopefully be enough to see us through. But these games will always be tough games.”

Rodgers responds to Vardy joining Celtic rumours

One player who has been linked with Celtic is free agent Jamie Vardy. The forward has his heart set on a move to Celtic Park after leaving Leicester City, and Rodgers called the forward “brilliant” when quizzed on a potential move.

Rodgers also wanted to ensure uncertainty over potential outgoing transfers also does not affect players.

“I mentioned this a few weeks ago to the players, I think it’s important to just set the narrative for them because there’s so much noise, especially as it ramps up towards the end.

“I’ve been in enough changing rooms to know how stability can be lost in this moment because some players will be thinking are they staying, are they going, but in the midst of that you’ve got really important games.

“So I’ve already mentioned this to players about respecting and acknowledging that it is a difficult part of the season, however, the money will be in your bank every month and it’ll be from Celtic and whilst it is, you need to perform. And in fairness to the players, they’ve been brilliant with that. You see it in their attitude in the game, the energy in the games.”

Better deal than Uche: PL "animal" in medical ahead of Crystal Palace move

Crystal Palace are set for an extremely busy end to what can only be described as a frantic transfer window at Selhurst Park.

While the incoming signings to date haven’t blown anyone away, it’s more been focused on the high-profile exits being regularly spoken about, with Eberechi Eze now officially an Arsenal player.

With Marc Guehi’s future also precariously up in the air today as the clock ticks down to 7pm, it is sure to be a rollercoaster day for those with an Eagles connection.

However, there also could be a flurry of late incoming signings to counteract activity out the door.

Palace strike up late move for £17m defender

Already, the drama of deadline day has thrown up Getafe star Christantus Uche moving to East London – as a verbal agreement has now been struck between the Spanish side and Oliver Glasner’s men – with another star set to join him in his new Premier League postcode.

Indeed, as was exclusively broken by journalist Charlie Parker-Turner, via X, Glasner and Co. have reached another agreement to snap up Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Igor Julio on a loan deal. Fabrizio Romano has even revealed that the deal is at the late medical stage, already.

This could well be a temporary measure in case Guehi exits the building.

But, regardless of whether the Liverpool-linked defender leaves or not, adding in the £14.5m brute at the final hour could be seen as a better last-minute buy than securing the services of Uche.

Why Julio could be a better signing than Uche

After all, Palace aren’t exactly overflowing with centre-back options currently, even with Guehi still in their grip.

There are realistically only three centre-back figures available for selection at the moment, with Chris Richards and Marcel Larcoix the only other notable first-team presences in the heart of defence, as the duo – alongside Guehi – shut out Aston Villa valiantly last time out in a resounding 3-0 away day win.

Whilst he hasn’t always been a guaranteed starter for the Seagulls, the Brazilian has stood out in flashes on the South Coast, with a mightily impressive 93% pass accuracy managed across his 27 Premier League starts to date, perhaps making him a worthwhile candidate to fill the expected Guehi void to come.

Moreover, Julio has even been dubbed an “animal” for his prowess in the air by former Brighton coach Inigo Calderon, with his relentless energy to retrieve the ball – as seen in his high 4.4 ball recovery average during his debut top-flight season – also another positive characteristic of the reserve defender’s game if Glasner needs to utilise the South American shortly.

Igor Julio in action for Brighton.

Of course, attacking signings often catch the eye more, with Uche’s impressive record of five goals and eight assists for Getafe a tantalising prospect.

But, the rising Nigerian star has never set foot on English soil before, with the Eagles already well-stocked in the attacking department, arguably, with Jean Philippe-Mateta leading the line with his usual venom, on top of Ismaila Sarr bagging a second Premier League strike of the season already at Villa.

Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers in action with Brighton & Hove Albion'sIgorJulio

Therefore, while Uche will likely strike up a healthy partnership with Mateta and make Palace even more of an attractive watch, sealing Julio’s services feels like a more shrewd, late capture on loan, particularly if the Eagles’ window ends with Guehi’s heartbreaking departure being confirmed.

'Let it be extra motivation' – Javier Mascherano says Sergio Busquets’ retirement announcement drives Inter Miami’s MLS Cup push

Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano said Sergio Busquets’ retirement announcement gives the Herons "extra motivation" to close the season strong and finish the Spanish midfielder’s career in the right way. Miami, who face Toronto FC on Saturday, have already clinched a playoff spot but are pushing to climb the standings.

AFPMascherano on his talk with Busquets

Mascherano shared details of his conversation with Busquets prior to the announcement that the Spanish star will hang up his boots and not renew with the club for next season.

“He told me yesterday – he’d been thinking about it for the past few weeks. It’s a shame because he’s still at a level where we can continue enjoying his game,” the Argentine manager said on Friday during a press conference. “As a friend who’s been through that moment, all you can do is support him and share your thoughts. Busi is completely convinced about his decision.”

AdvertisementGetty Images Sport“Hopefully it’s an extra motivation"

Mascherano praised Busquets’ football intelligence and even speculated about his future beyond the pitch.

“Busi is going to be a coach – when, how, and where will be up to him. I haven’t talked to him about whether he’ll return home or stay here in Miami,” he noted.

The Inter Miami coach also reminisced about their time together at Barcelona, where they formed one of the most solid midfields in the world.

“The nostalgia of those years is special. I was lucky to share almost eight seasons with him. I arrived to play the same position, but always knew he was the starter. In my early days, he helped me a lot. What we experienced at Barcelona was unique and unforgettable – it left a mark on all of our careers,” Mascherano said.

Mascherano hopes Busquets’ announcement serves as inspiration for the team as they chase the MLS Cup in the coming weeks.

“Hopefully, it’s an extra motivation to help Busi finish his career in the best possible way. This team thrives on challenges – it’s full of winners and competitors,” he said.

AFPTelasco shares intimate team moment with Busi

Telasco Segovia shared how the team experienced the moment Sergio Busquets announced his retirement.

“I was surprised by Busi’s decision; I didn’t know he was going to retire," Segovia said. "As a kid, I watched him play for Barcelona and dreamed of playing alongside him. I’m happy for everything he’s achieved. He gathered all of us and told us, and we were all shocked.”

Better deal than Isak: Liverpool planning D-Day bid for £76m "superstar"

Rio Ngumoha is the talk of the town after scoring a last-gasp winner for Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Monday night, thus preserving Arne Slot’s flawless start to the Premier League campaign.

‘Flawless’ perhaps conveys the wrong mood. Liverpool have been pressed against the ropes in each of their opening league fixtures this season, yet they have snatched victory against Bournemouth at Anfield and Newcastle United on Tyneside.

It wouldn’t be unfair to suggest that Slot’s side are tactically imbalanced at the moment, with the thrilling addition of British-record playmaker Florian Wirtz seeming to distort the team’s balance, and the defensive fragility of Ibrahima Konate and much change further providing Slot with food for thought.

And so talks are ongoing for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, with hope that he will sign before deadline day. Perhaps the 25-year-old’s arrival would add depth and another dimension at the rear to launch Liverpool back into a smoother rhythm.

However, there’s another top target who could. Indeed, Alexander Isak’s potential move to Merseyside remains one of the biggest stories as the market winds down.

The latest on Isak to Liverpool

Liverpool’s bid for Newcastle United striker Isak is going down to the wire, with the Magpies still yet to sign one centre-forward this summer – let alone two.

The Sweden international has made it perfectly clear he has no intention of staying at St. James’ Park beyond the transfer window (though how much power he has over that is another matter), but Liverpool will not follow up their rejected £110m offer from the start of August without encouragement from the Toon.

A PIF delegation extended an olive branch to the 25-year-old after Liverpool’s dramatic victory on Monday, but Isak has doubled down on his stance.

The ball, frustratingly, is in Newcastle’s court, for they cannot reasonably cash in on their talisman if they do not find and sign a replacement (or two).

With that in mind, FSG have identified the perfect alternative, and he might even prove to be a better signing for Slot’s side.

Liverpool ready D-day bid for Isak alternative

If Liverpool do fail in their protracted bid to sign Isak, sporting director Richard Hughes won’t turn to an alternative centre-forward.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

That’s according to GIVEMESPORT. The publication have revealed that Liverpool are ready to make a deadline-day swoop for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo in the event that they miss out on Isak.

Rodrygo has been anticipated to leave Real this summer after struggles last season and signs of a diminished role under Xabi Alonso’s wing. Even with the La Liga giants open to the Brazilian’s departure, he has been priced at £76m.

Real Madrid's Rodrygo

Arsenal and Manchester City have shown interest of their own this summer, but the Gunners have signed Eberechi Eze this week and Pep Guardiola’s outfit look set to bar Savinho’s move to Tottenham Hotspur, thus jeopardising their move for Rodrygo.

What Rodrygo would bring to Liverpool

Liverpool sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich this summer, but Cody Gakpo has started the season strongly, scoring against Bournemouth and notching two assists at Newcastle. Ngumoha’s incredible emergence eases the need for a wide forward further.

But Rodrygo is a special player, and there’s no doubt that Liverpool could do with a little bit more to complete their frontline.

Given that the 24-year-old, who can play on both wings and as a frontman, managed to score 14 goals and provide 11 assists across all competitions last year, even though in a rut, Liverpool could strike gold in bringing him over.

And considering that he would cost less than Isak, maybe Rodrygo would even prove the better signing to make.

Isak is one of the best strikers in the world, and last year he scored 27 goals across all competitions as Newcastle qualified for the Champions League and won the Carabao Cup, with Isak scoring as Newcastle beat Liverpool at Wembley.

But Madrid’s tenacious wide forward has been remarked to be a “world-class superstar” by his former teammate Luka Modric, and boasts a wide-ranging skill set that appears custom-built for a top role in the Premier League.

Rodrygo’s clinical output over the past year has left plenty to be desired, no doubt about it, but there would be confidence that Slot could give rise to the £207k-per-week talent’s prolific side, while harnessing that ever-present underlying energy and application.

Isak and Rodrygo, two forwards of varying position and role, aren’t comparable in the strictest sense, but looking at their data when lined against one another underscores the reasoning behind a Liverpool bid for the latter.

To put it simply, Liverpool have hit the jackpot on Hugo Ekitike, whose £79m journey from Eintracht Frankfurt to Anfield has already yielded three goals and an assist from three matches. Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher has hailed the Frenchman’s “brilliant start”, and there are those who question the need for a record-breaking move for Isak after such an exciting addition.

Ekitike, 23, looks a real sensation in the making, and though it would be unfair to expect him to maintain his present output across the long and circuitous campaign, who can deny him his potential?

Hugo Ekitike scores for Liverpool

Might Isak inhibit that growth? Might the addition of the Scandinavian superstar threaten to disrupt the progress of a rising talent who has already found a degree of fluency in England that avoids so many foreign hopefuls as they wade in and look to make their name.

Rodrygo, however, could play across the frontline and thus add depth without disrupting the progress being forged at Anfield right now.

Make no mistake, Isak would be an incredible signing for Liverpool, but Rodrygo, cheaper and more positionally dynamic, is a world-class player himself, and he knows how to shape a team aiming for the top.

Man City now hold talks with agents of "world-class" £86m Arsenal target

Manchester City have now held talks with the agents of a “world-class” star, who is also being targeted by Arsenal.

Man City keen on new forward despite dominant victory over Wolves

Man City got off to a fantastic start to the new Premier League season, laying down a marker by winning 4-0 away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and two of Pep Guardiola’s summer additions marked their league debuts with a goal.

Indeed, both Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders got on the scoresheet, with the latter also providing an assist for Erling Haaland’s second goal, in what was a dominant display from the Blues.

Gary Neville has even been forced to reconsider his predictions for the season, in light of City’s fantastic performance, saying: “We could look back in six months and be saying it was staring us in the face because City have got a treble-winning spine, they’ve got new players in who look outstanding and they’ve got the best forward in the league.”

Neville is correct to point out that Guardiola is blessed with some top-quality attacking options, but one forward who didn’t feature against Wolves is Savinho, as the Brazilian is being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, according to a report from The Boot Room, Manchester City have identified Real Madrid star Rodrygo as their ideal replacement for Savinho, and they have now made fresh contact with the Brazilian’s agents.

Man City now targeting "fantastic" Chelsea gem who Maresca wants to keep

The Citizens could deal their rivals a blow.

ByTom Cunningham Aug 17, 2025

Arsenal are also in the race for the Madrid forward, however, with sporting director Andrea Berta currently working on a deal, which could be on the expensive side, with a potential transfer fee of £86m recently being touted.

With Savinho keen on a move to Tottenham, it is looking more likely that City may pursue the Madrid star, but it could be difficult to win the race, given that the Gunners have a strong relationship with the Spanish side.

However, since then, Guillem Balague has stated that City, right now, are set to keep Savinho, which would rule out any move for Rodrygo in the process.

"World-class" Rodrygo could be Savinho upgrade

Not only is Rodrygo far more experienced than Savinho at the top level, having amassed 39 goal contributions in 64 Champions League appearances, but he has also outperformed his compatriot in front of goal over the past year.

Real Madrid'sRodrygoarrives at the stadium before the match

Indeed, despite a promising debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium on the assist front, with the 21-year-old setting up 10 Premier League goals, the youngster has averaged just 0.08 non-penalty goals per 90 over the past year, compared to the 24-year-old’s 0.33.

The former Santos man has also received high praise from Real Madrid legend Luka Modric, who dubbed his former teammate as “world-class”.

As such, Rodrygo could be an upgrade on Savinho, but the reported £86m asking price is prohibitive, and rival interest from Arsenal could hamper a deal.
