Neville has revealed MUFC manager theory

Manchester United are struggling this season, and are becoming less likely to qualify for the Champions League next season at the rate they are going in their Premier League campaign.

They have dropped out of the top four after losing to Manchester City on Sunday, and now a fresh perspective on the future of the club has been shared following the disappointing result.

What’s the word?

Gary Neville was a pundit on Sky Sports following the Manchester United defeat at the Etihad Stadium where the side lost 4-1 in a shocking display from the team of his former club.

The Red Devils legend made many comments about the state of the club and the problems of the present, as well as going into the future plans he expects that Manchester United will carry out to make big changes this summer, including a theory on the manager search that is currently underway at the club.

Neville told his fellow pundits in the Sky Sports studio:

“They didn’t want Conte, they want to appoint Ten Hag or Pochettino, a young, up and coming manager for the long-term.

“I suspect they’re favouring Ten Hag for what they want moving forward, but they won’t appoint Rangnick, he’ll hand over his report and move into a consultancy role next season.”

Supporters will be elated

The former Premier League defender has good connections to the club, so his insights into the future plans at Manchester United are usually held in high regard and treated as trustworthy by the supporters, and if his comments about Erik tag come from an informed perspective, the fans of the club will be absolutely over the moon.

Ten Hag is an extremely popular choice and the Ajax boss has become the reported front runner for the position at Old Trafford this summer alongside PSG manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who is also in contention to become the next permanent manager.

The Dutch coach’s achievements with Ajax and the way he has nurtured and developed his players is hard to ignore, with his visionary approach to football and his commitment and direction something a very lost Manchester United is in desperate need of.

Winning five trophies since he joined the Eredivisie at Ajax Amsterdam, winning two league titles, two Dutch cups and one Dutch Super Cup since he joined the club in 2017, there is no doubt that the Dutchman knows what it takes to win. Again, a winning mentality is something Old Trafford has been without for many years now.

Manchester United are set to go on the longest trophy drought in four decades if they don’t win the Champions League, which is the only honour they are still competing for this season. Also if they don’t win the European competition they could find themselves out of the tournament next season too, as they are no longer in one of the four qualifying places in the Premier League with just a few months remaining.

Celtic: Marvin Bartley heaps praise on Jota

BBC Scotland pundit Marvin Bartley has been full of praise for the performance of Celtic forward Jota over the weekend.

The lowdown: Celtic one step closer

The Hoops took another significant stride toward the Premiership title with a 2-0 victory over Ross County at Victoria Park on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are now six points clear at the top of the table with four matches remaining after an opening goal from Kyogo Furuhashi and a late strike from Jota sealed the points in Dingwall.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates-3/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

After the match, there were plenty of plaudits for the Portuguese ace in particular…

The latest: Bartley praises Jota

Speaking to BBC Sportscene (April 24, 19:31), Bartley was full of praise for the display of the 23-year-old on loan from Benfica.

The Livingston defender gushed: “His all-around game is absolutely brilliant. If you’re a Celtic fan you want him signed up as soon as possible. He’s a striker’s dream, isn’t he? If you go in the right areas, he’ll find you. His head is up all the time.

“He can play left, he can play right, he’s pro-active, he’s constantly on the move. He’s got that belief he can go past anyone.”

The verdict: Top-drawer display from Jota

This was a performance right out of the top drawer from Jota as the Portugal under-21 starlet took his tally for the season to 11 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

Overall, the youngster earned a standout 8.90 rating for his display, which contained four key passes and two further big chances created, along with the goal and assist (Sofascore).

Performances such as this will only further increase the clamour for the club to pay the reported £6m required to make the loan sensation a Celtic player on a permanent basis over the summer.

PCB selector hits back at charges of bias

Mohsin Khan, the PCB’s chief selector, has reacted strongly after the board was accused of being biased against players from Karachi by the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA)

Cricinfo staff12-Aug-2010Mohsin Khan, the PCB’s chief selector, has reacted strongly after the board was accused of being biased against players from Karachi by the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA), with regards to the ongoing Test series against England. “The England-bound squad was selected after thorough deliberation with coach and the captain, hence putting the blame solely on me is a bit unjust. On top of all the captain of the squad (Shahid Afridi) was from Karachi and had a big say in the team selection”, Khan told the news channel .The players in the current Pakistan squad are predominantly from one province, Punjab, and the accusations reflect a growing disquiet over the failure to put together a “representative team” for the series. The KCCA had named Sarfraz Ahmed, Khurram Manzoor, Khalid Latif, Faisal Iqbal and Asad Shafiq – all Karachi cricketers – as among those who were ignored by the selection committee. Mohsin said apart from Afridi, Danish Kaneria and Tanvir Ahmed from Karachi, were part of the squad but the selectors could not be blamed for their non-inclusion in the playing eleven.”Shahid Afridi resigned after the very first Test match; Kaneria’s performance was not up to the mark and was released by the tour management to regain his form while Tanvir was not provided with an opportunity as there was no room in presence of Amir, Asif and Gul,” Mohsin said.Mohsin added that several youngsters, including those from Karachi, had been considered for the tour but the selectors eventually settled on Umar Amin and Azhar Ali. “Batting in England has never been easy for Pakistan hence Azhar Ali was unanimously picked due to his decent technique, which is essential in English conditions. We were told that Naveed Yasin was nursing an injury hence he was not considered; a lengthy discussion was held on Umar Amin and upon the insistence of coach and captain, he was included in the squad. Faisal Iqbal was also discussed but the captain was of the view that his performance had been inconsistent as he had only scored one century in 44 innings.”Meanwhile the KCCA reiterated its criticism on Wednesday at a press conference in Karachi. “A number of talented cricketers from Karachi have been neglected,” Khalil Nanitalwala, vice-president of the KCCA said. “The team’s recent showings in England prove that merit was not followed in team selection.”Kaneria was ousted after not being able to perform well in the first Test which is quite unprecedented and a blow to Karachi cricket. Karachi’s Asad Shafiq was among the top run-getters in the last domestic season, while Khurram Manzoor, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Sami, Fawad Alam and a number of other players also deserved places in the team.”Nanitalwala said the KCCA has been protesting with the PCB over the issue but decided to go public only after the board took no notice.

Rain denies Durham chance of win

ScorecardDurham were denied a victory that would move them closer to the top of the County Championship First Division table following a final-day washout againstWarwickshire at Edgbaston.Champions for the past two years, Durham were in a good position to revivetheir bid for a title hat-trick until the rain returned immediately after anoptimistic mid-afternoon report by the umpires.Peter Willey and Rob Bailey initially planned a re-start at 3.45pm, which wouldhave given Durham 36 overs in which to wrap up the six wickets they required forvictory. But Warwickshire remained on their overnight score of 229 for 4, after beingasked to follow on 279 behind, when further downpours resulted in the matchbeing called off at 4.30pm.

DCL, Richarlison & Mina back for Everton

Lots of Everton fans have been left buzzing over some injury news that has emerged ahead of their game away at Norwich City in the Premier League.

As per The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Yerry Mina are all now back in training for the Goodison Park faithful, meaning that they could all feature against the Canaries if deemed fit enough.

All three of them rank among the Merseyside club’s ten best players so far this season, according to WhoScored, with Calvert-Lewin number one.

The striker has scored three goals in the four matches that he has played in the Premier League this term, and having him back with Richarlison will certainly give Rafa Benitez’s team more of a goal threat, while Mina provides another solid option defensively.

Spurs source reveals major Hitchen update

A major update has emerged on the future of Steve Hitchen at Tottenham Hotspur this week…

What’s the word?

According to a Spurs inside source speaking to Football Insider, the technical and performance director is likely to remain in any potential stuff and recruitment cull at Hotspur Way due to his relationship with chairman Daniel Levy, on whom he has often relied in recent times.

Hitchen was responsible for transfers prior to the arrival of sporting director Fabio Paratici and notably recruited no fewer than £150m worth of talent during the summer of 2019 and January 2020.

It is believed that the Italian head coach wants to take full control of the Lilywhites’ transfer process this winter as his anger and disappointment at the club’s poor recruitment in recent years has been revealed.

He is said to have confidence in Paratici but does not trust some long-standing members of staff in north London.

This won’t go down well

Hitchen and his decision-making has often been criticised by large sections of the Spurs faithful over the years, which is hardly a surprise given his attitude when the transfer window swings around twice a year.

“The January transfer window is the worst transfer window. It’s a window of opportunity, it’s a window of panic, it’s never a window to plan… I hate it,” he claimed during Amazon’s ‘All or Nothing’ docuseries.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-team-injury-team-news-updates-transfers-gossip-rumours-antonio-conte-thfc” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

Meanwhile, some supporters have deemed his recruitment “shocking” and have regularly taken fire whenever his name crops up in the media.

Indeed, it’s hard to disagree as his major splashes of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso (around £55m apiece) have failed to justify their club-record price tags, with other signings like Ryan Sessegnon, Steven Bergwijn and Jack Clarke all raising further question marks.

Throw in players like Davinson Sanchez, Serge Aurier, Matt Doherty and Juan Foyth over the years, and it’s not a great track record whatsoever.

Also, the fact that Conte does not have faith in him speaks volumes, so the Premier League and FA Cup-winning head coach should ultimately be heeded – if he does not want Hitchen, then Levy must ignore his loyalties for the sake of the club. Failure to do so would only anger the fanbase even more.

This latest behind-the-scenes development will surely leave Conte and those around N17 absolutely fuming.
