West Brom’s predicted line-up to face Everton in the Premier League

Despite producing a resilient display last weekend – particularly in the first-half – West Brom opened up their return to the Premier League with a 3-0 defeat at home to Leicester.

The Baggies held firm for 56 minutes before Timothy Castagne fired Brendan Rodgers’ side in front, and a couple of penalties from Jamie Vardy late on sealed the deal.

Spot the fact from the fib: Are these Premier League records true or false?

A mid-week Carabao Cup win over Harrogate Town would surely have boosted the confidence inside the camp, and Slaven Bilic may already be contemplating making some important changes from the line-up that started against Leicester.

Below is a look how West Brom could play against Everton on early Saturday afternoon.

Sam Johnstone is sure to resume his duties as first-choice goalkeeper at Goodison Park, with David Button dropping to the bench following his involvement in the Carabao Cup in mid-week.

Tactically, Bilic may look to ditch the five-man defence that he employed against Leicester, and instead go with a regular back-four – a switch that saw them clinch a 3-0 win over Harrogate.

If that’s the case, Semi Ajayi could be the man to make way and lose his starting spot from last weekend, with the Baggies boss favouring Darnell Furlong, Kyle Bartley, Dara O’Shea and Kieran Gibbs.

In midfield, Romaine Sawyers was arguably the worst of the bunch in the defeat to Leicester, with West Brom fans making their frustrations clear on Twitter after the game.

Bilic could make a real statement by dropping him to the bench, replacing him in the starting line-up with starlet Rekeem Harper, who scored on Wednesday.

And whilst Callum Robinson may have not netted on the opening day, Bilic is likely to retain his confidence in the former Sheffield United man, and could help him out immeasurably by choosing to play Hal Robson-Kanu alongside him – another who scored in that victory over Harrogate.

Momentum will undoubtedly be key, and choosing to go more attacking and adventurous in his team selection could see West Brom pick up their first league points of the season on Saturday.

Predicted XI: Johnstone; Furlong, Bartley, O’Shea, Gibbs; Pereira, Livermore, Harper, Diangana; Robinson, Robson-Kanu.

Kane’s teammate Eric Dier didn’t like being on the losing side and demanded a rematch in the comments section.

The England international is the club’s leading goalscorer this season and he has netted 11 goals and created 2 assists in just 20 Premier League games for Jose Mourinho’s side so far.

Mourinho’s men are currently eighth in the table, seven points behind Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, and the Englishman will no doubt be hoping he can rediscover his goalscoring form and lift the Lilywhites into the Champions League qualification places.

It is worth pointing out Spurs only won won three games in the league whilst he recovered from injury.

His strikeforce partner Son is the club’s second-highest goalscorer this season, scoring nine goals and creating seven assists in the English top flight, taking three shots per game, averaging more than one key pass and making at least two dribbles per match on average (via WhoScored).

Spurs fans will surely be excited to see the duo returning to duty, as the Premier League moves nearer to a return behind closed doors in June.Tottenham fans, are you excited to see Harry Kane and Son Heung-min back on the pitch in a matter of weeks? Let us know down below!

Everton: Fans slam Marco Silva as he is favourite for Benfica job

Loads of Everton fans have been slamming the Merseyside club’s former boss Marco Silva as he is reportedly the favourite to take over at Benfica from current coach Bruno Lage, who is set to leave the Portuguese outfit, according to A Bola, Record and O Jogo (via Sport Witness).

As per the outlet, all of the newspapers in Portugal have been saying that Lage should soon leave Benfica, whether it would be now or if he was to be sacked at the end of the 2019/20 season following some recently poor results.

Since the restart following the global pandemic outbreak, the Portuguese giants have only won one game out of four, drawing two and losing their most recent match at home 4-3 against Santa Clara, leaving them three points behind FC Porto in the race for the Primeira Liga title.

Indeed, Silva is being lined up, but several members of the Goodison Park faithful remember the relatively poor time he had managing the Toffees.

The 42-year old only manged a table in his final full campaign, missing out on the automatic European spots.

These EFC supporters slammed their ex-manager on Twitter amid speculation he could takeover at Benfica:

Manchester United: Red Devils legend believes Jadon Sancho would suit Red Devils

Manchester United have been chasing Jadon Sancho’s signature for a number of months, with seemingly no end in sight.

However, the Red Devils have now been handed a confidence boost by one of their former players.

Louis Saha believes Sancho would be a perfect fit for his old club, after the Manchester Evening News revealed United want to sign the winger in the summer.

Last week, ESPN reported that the Reds are leading the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund star. Sports journalist James Benson added the youngster has told Dortmund he wants to leave and return to his homeland.

After establishing himself at the Signal Iduna Park, Sancho has become one of Europe’s hottest talents.

The former Man United striker told beIN Sports (as relayed by Goal) “he is a player that is uncatchable.

“He’s very clever, quick, very precise. He’s got the legs, the stamina, the quality. He’s very creative for that type of player.

“When you have all those things, like I said about speed and creativity, but precise as well, so imagine how deadly these things are.

“You can’t stop the guy and at the same time he’s very precise because he knows how to stop when passing the ball.”

It is hard to argue with Saha on this one, as Sancho is one of the most coveted wingers in the world.

Indeed, Premier League rivals Chelsea were interested in the England international, but Frank Lampard has decided to turn his attention to Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz.

The 20-year-old, who is the Bundesliga challengers’ top scorer this season, has scored 17 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga so far.

Saha’s vote of confidence will no doubt give his former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some encouragement, as Paul Merson has now urged the Blues to sign Sancho instead.

The Red Devils have been linked to the Englishman for a very long time, originating from Jose Mourinho’s turbulent time in charge at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer was planning ahead for a squad overhaul before the nationwide lockdown was imposed in response to the coronavirus crisis (ESPN).

It seems the Norwegian has stayed firm as he is keen to sign his top transfer target in the summer, and it appears he could be about to beat all competition for the winger in a matter of weeks.

Sheffield United fans bemoan David McGoldrick’s finishing ability

Sheffield United fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan David McGoldrick’s finishing ability, despite watching their side record a 2-1 win over Norwich on Sunday.

The Blades went 1-0 down after Alexander Tettey found the back of the net in the first half, although whatever Chris Wilder said at half-time, it did the trick.

Last season’s Championship runners-up scored just four minutes after the restart thanks to Enda Stevens, before another full-back in George Baldock scored three minutes later after a skilful turn and finish.

However, the win perhaps would’ve been more comfortable if McGoldrick finished some of his chances.

The Irishman made two key passes, won seven aerial duels and also got involved defensively with two tackles, interceptions and clearances.

Aside from that, though, the 32-year-old simply couldn’t finish against Daniel Farke’s men.

McGoldrick had three attempts on Tim Krul’s goal, but could only get one on target – this supporter below said that the experienced striker’s inability to score is “killing” him.

This fan echoed that desperation, saying that they’ve never wanted a player to score a goal as much as they do towards McGoldrick, stating that the forward does all the other parts of the game so well.

Lastly, these two supporters both made clear that they “love” the Blades attacker, but couldn’t help but knuckle down on the player when it came to telling McGoldrick that he must improve in front of goal.

Man Utd interest in Italian starlet Lorenzo Pirola a sign of recruitment progress

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to FC Inter News, Manchester United are interested in Inter starlet Lorenzo Pirola after sending scouts to watch him in action.

What’s the word?

The 17-year-old is currently at the U17 World Cup with Italy at the moment, and he has helped his country reach the knockout stages after impressive victories against Mexico and the Solomon Islands.

Now, FC Inter News claim the Red Devils are set to be involved in a transfer war with arch-rivals Manchester City over securing Pirola’s signature. The report claims that representatives from both sides have attended the group stage games to run the rule over the young defender.

It further adds that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been keeping an eye on him for much longer, and that Inter will not be prepared to let him go without putting up a fight.

Progress

Make no mistake about it, following Pirola’s development in view to a future move shows real signs of progress in the recruitment department for United. When was the last time a virtually unknown, promising quantity arrived at Old Trafford? Signing the teenager would be evidence that the club are casting their net further and wider in search of securing young talents who may not be on every European giants’ radar.

The Italian’s stock only continues to get higher following his inclusion in this summer’s team of the tournament for the U17 EUROs. And, after scoring against Paraguay in the World Cup, his name will be beginning to get a lot of recognition. If United can fend off competition from their noisy neighbours and sign the highly-coveted prospect, then it will be great proof that they are heading in the right direction with their recruitment strategy.

Spurs fans left confused by Mauricio Pochettino’s quotes on Tanguy Ndombele

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left confused by Mauricio Pochettino’s quotes on midfielder Tanguy Ndombele following the club’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

The Frenchman, signed from Lyon in the summer, was left out of the starting XI at Anfield but came on as a substitute in the second half.

Ndombele impressed during his time on the pitch, registering two key passes, per WhoScored, and attempting to move Spurs forward throughout the game.

He also had one shot on goal, though he was unable to save his side from a disappointing defeat.

Asked about Ndombele’s impact on the game later on, Pochettino replied: “A big difference? Doing what?”

And a number of supporters have expressed their disbelief at the comments after they were posted on social media.

Indeed, some believe that he was one of the club’s best players despite his short time on the pitch.

Leeds fans divided over potential new deal for Pablo Hernandez

This turned out to be a controversial one.

According to reports, Pablo Hernandez and Leeds United are set to sit down and discuss the possibility of a new contract.

The Spaniard’s current deal expires at the end of the season and despite being 34-years-old, it looks as if that isn’t acting as a stumbling block for the club as they aim to tie down the winger.

A question was posed to supporters over whether they wanted Hernandez to stick around at Elland Road but supporters couldn’t really agree with each other on the matter.

The veteran scored 12 times in 2018/19 and also laid on the same number of assists. He’s also been involved in four goals during the new term, via WhoScored, but that hasn’t stopped some suggesting he shouldn’t remain in west Yorkshire.

However, some people were convinced that he could and should stay at the club for as long as possible, even if his role on the pitch is somewhat diminished.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying.

Whilst there were those who felt that his time has come and that it would be best if he stepped aside.

Thankfully these fans aren’t part of the negotiating party, or the contract would take longer to sort out than Brexit.

Mohamed Salah’s return to fitness delights the Liverpool fans

Mohamed Salah has been included in the Liverpool squad for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Genk in Belgium.

The Egypt international was absent for Sunday’s Premier League game against Manchester United with an ankle problem, and the Reds missed the attacker as they dropped their first league points of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 27-year-old is set to make his return on Wednesday, though, which will be a huge boost for a Liverpool side looking for their second victory in Group E.

It remains to be seen just how many changes Jurgen Klopp decides to make, particularly as the Reds face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this weekend.

Salah’s return, as expected, has delighted the Liverpool supporters, with many drooling over the fact that the attacker will be available to take on Genk.

The Egyptian has managed six goals in 12 appearances for the Reds this season – including two in two Champions League outings.
