Italy registered a notable scalp as they beat Netherlands by eight runs at North County. Joe Scuderi, the former Lancashire allrounder, hit an unbeaten 84 to steer Italy to 181, which proved too much for their higher-ranked opponents. Tim de Groot hit 51, but he lacked support and the lower order couldn’t quite see the chase home as Netherlands were bowled out with more than six overs remaining.Qasim Sheikh hit an unbeaten 80 to guide Scotland to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Denmark at Malahide. Scotland’s target was adjusted under the D/L method as rain interrupted the chase after 28 overs, but they were well on course at 151 for 3. Ryan Watson (34) provided good support in a second-wicket stand of 70 and Neil McCallum helped complete the victory with a run-a-ball 22. Denmark wasted a solid position after Carsten Pedersen (72) and Soren Vestergaard (50) added 99 for the third wicket. Three run-outs didn’t help their cause, while Scotland’s death bowling also held firm.Ireland had few problems completing an eight-wicket win against Norway as Gary Kidd impressed with four wickets at The Vineyard. Norway made a promising start, as the first wicket put on 35, but it was a false dawn. Kevin O’Brien made the breakthrough and wickets then fell steadily. Kidd nipped out two in the middle order before removing two tailenders. Ireland raced to their target in 22.5 overs with Gary Wilson, on the books at Surrey, striking 47 off 65 balls and Andre Botha making a quickfire 25 off 18 deliveries.

Rodriguez out for Everton vs Leeds

Many Everton fans have been left fuming as some early team news emerged ahead of their away game at Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking on his Twitch channel (via The Everton End), James Rodriguez admitted that he will not be playing against Marcelo Bielsa’s team.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Colombia international could still leave before the summer transfer window shuts, as he has even admitted that he does not know where his future lies.

Rodriguez missed a fair chunk of matches in his debut season at Goodison Park, whether that would be because of injury or other reasons, and that has carried on into this campaign, leaving a lot of the Merseyside club’s supporters frustrated that he is not playing enough for them, with some even calling to cut their losses.

These Toffees fumed as the news from Rodriguez about him not playing against the Whites was shared on Twitter:

“Complete 180 on this fella now. Be glad to see him gone, he’s like a particularly bad episode of Hollyoaks now.”

“I’m not convinced he will ever give Everton 100% even if he does play again so time to move on, no player is bigger than Everton FC!!”

“James is a snake like Ancelotti. Pushed for a move like MMA similar to when he wouldn’t sign for Bayern after a loan spell with them. Benitez probably went along with it to get the £200k a week off the wage bill and enable getting players who want to play for Everton”

O pessoal do Corinthians me ajuda, o grupo é maravilhoso, então é continuar trabalhando.

Wet outfield rules out play on second day

The umpires inspected the outfield at 12.30pm, three hours after the scheduled start before calling off play for the day

The Bulletin by Kanishkaa Balachandran in Hyderabad10-Sep-2008
ScorecardFor the second day in succession, the outfield at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium took a pounding from the overnight rain. The umpires inspected the outfield at 12.30pm, three hours after the scheduled start before calling off play for the day. Only two hours of play were possible yesterday before bad light curtailed proceedings, with Australia A at 82 for 3.The conditions were overcast for most of the morning and that didn’t help dry out the excess water underneath the surface of the outfield. Though there were no visible puddles, walking around the outfield felt like walking on slush. The players reached the venue shortly before noon but had to settle for fielding practice. After returning to the hotel, the Uttar Pradesh contingent of the Indian team trooped off to watch a movie.

As derrotas aconteceram no Allianz Parque (5) e Pacaembu (1).

Wolves keen on signing Ademola Lookman

If you look at the table, things don’t exactly look good for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Old Gold have lost both of their first matches under Bruno Lage and are yet to score a goal.

On the chalkboard

Heading into the summer, it became apparent that Wolves needed far more bodies in their first-team ranks.

This all came down to planning, something Nuno Santo claimed needed to be improved before he left for Tottenham.

However, that message doesn’t appear to have got through to the club’s ownership.

They are again staring at a situation where their squad is slim and they’re already paying the price. Lage said last week that the first-team group currently consisted of just 15 players due to injuries. Consequently, Wolves need more depth, and they need it quickly.

They have always been keen to strengthen options available to coaches in the academy but it’s time they put senior matters first.

The solution

One area where Wolves lack genuine rotation options is in the final third. Adama Traore and Trincao are the only viable choices on the flanks at the moment with Pedro Neto now ruled out until February.

The Portuguese attacker broke his knee cap towards the back end of last term, dealing the club a harsh blow considering he won their Player of the Season award for 2021/22.

With that in mind, signing another body would be a good idea. According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Wolves have joined the race to sign Ademola Lookman.

They are battling to sign the 23-year-old with Crystal Palace, but his parent club RB Leipzig are intent on a permanent deal for the winger.

Lookman has never really discovered true consistency but he showed in glimpses for Fulham last term that he’s got the quality necessary to thrive in the Premier League.

Some of his actions in the final third were supreme as he found himself involved in eight goals. For context, only Neto contributed to more top-flight strikes in the entire Wolves team.

Hailed as a player with “unbelievable quality” by his former boss Scott Parker, he had a tendency to put in some electrifying displays at Craven Cottage.

The £9.9m-rated gem played 1.8 key passes per match and was successful with 2.4 dribbles a game.

In terms of those already at Molineux, only Neto managed more key passes and only Traore provided more dribbles. On that final piece of evidence, he’d be a top drawer replacement if the latter leaves.

Traore has been linked with a mega £40m move to Tottenham and given Wolves’ financial constraints, there’s every chance that proposal will be accepted by the hierarchy.

If that does go through, then Lage must do his best to lure Lookman to the Midlands in the final week of the window.

His dribbling and speed might not be on the same destructive level as the Spaniard’s but he’s still very dangerous.

AND in other news, Wolves could finally replace Jota by signing “explosive” £34m “powerhouse”…

The slow-profile Australians

Cricinfo presents the plays of the day for day four of the second Test between India and Australia in Mohali

Cricinfo staff20-Oct-2008

Serial offender, part II
Early in the morning, with India pushing towards a big lead, Australia could have thought of only one saviour: Father Time. And so came an over rate of 12 to 12.5 for an hour. In a short spell, Shane Watson pulled out of his run three times. Without saying it was a deliberate time-wasting ploy, commentator Sunil Gavaskar couldn’t resist having a dig or two. Don’t know how the Australian papers, the sensationalist ones, will see it, though. When luck becomes ploy
Mitchell Johnson was very lucky with the down-the-leg-side dismissals in the first innings. The way Virender Sehwag went for a similar ball to his first innings’ dismissal it seemed an action replay was being enacted live. The ball from Johnson was shortish, hip-high, and would have been a big wide in a one-dayer, but Sehwag went for it, and barely missed edging it. That was on the first day, Johnson tried it to similar effect today. ‘Australian for stock ball’, eh? Just in case Foster’s use it, they know where the copyright lies.Suicide, and how?
Chasing 516, Matthew Hayden and Simon Katich came out swinging. The first ball of the innings was hit over mid-off, not convincingly at all. So while he scored 29 off 20 balls, he was not playing his natural game. He looked to manufacture shots, and minutes before tea he had tried one shot too many. The sadder part was, he perhaps pulled Katich with himself. The latter played a hopeless shot to give Harbhajan Singh two wickets in an over. One can imagine Hayden trying to muscle his way out of a lean patch, but whatever happened to Katich? Why don’t you walk, mate?
In the 37th over of India’s second innings, Johnson should have had Sehwag. But the umpire, Asad Rauf, didn’t think so. That was also the end of the over, and Ricky Ponting was seen having a chat with Sehwag during the changeover. Ponting did all the talking, and Sehwag did all the shaking of the head. Don’t know what the minutes of that conversation were, but if Ponting had suggested Sehwag to walk if he had edged, it had some effect on the latter. The next time Sehwag edged, he walked. It was a thick edge, though, so he really didn’t have any choice.Cheer of the day
It was a sad moment for the sparse crowd when Sehwag got out in the 90s, for only the second time in his career. But he was entertaining the crowd and, when he was out, there was a huge cheer when, instead of Rahul Dravid, Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked out on a day India needed quick runs for a huge total before declaration. Not that the crowd meant any disrespect to Dravid, just that they found Dhoni a better proposition in the circumstances.
