Leeds returned to the top of the table on Tuesday evening as they defeated West Brom at Elland Road.

The Baggies were unbeaten heading into the match so this was a statement win from Marcelo Bielsa’s men as they prevailed 1-0.

Patrick Bamford again went goalless but Gjanni Alioski popped up with an important strike that sealed all three points in the first half.

It was a more resolute performance from the Whites who won for just the second time in their last six matches in all competitions.

Yet, as the final whistle blew, there was still one negative to be had – the injury to Liam Cooper, something that will now keep him out for up to a month and a half.

Cooper has been a rock at the back for Leeds, landing a place in the PFA Team of the Year last season for his stellar performances in their run to the playoffs.

The Scot has started the season in similar form and has since earned a new contract for his fine contributions.

In 2019/20, he’s formed a reliable partnership alongside Ben White which has seen him win a massive 4.7 aerial duels per game, as well as making 1.6 tackles per outing.

But as he limped off in the first half, it would have been understandable if there were worries. This was particularly because Gaetano Berardi was the man replacing him.

The 5 foot 10 defender has claimed six red cards in the Championship since arriving, one of which came in the playoffs last term.

He’s traditionally been an unreliable figure in that regard but he displayed fresh hope on Tuesday evening, swatting away some of the pre-season doubts that had been lingering over him.

The Swiss centre back played 56 minutes but barely put a foot wrong all evening. Via WhoScored, Berardi made three clearances, as well as two interceptions and a solitary tackle.

Not only that, but he was also able to play a key pass in what was an accomplished display.

Cooper’s injury will come as a major blow, not least because he’s captain. But amid those concerns, Berardi showed that he might well be able to reduce the hit of potentially losing the skipper.

وتعادل المنتخبان بثلاثة أهداف لمثلهم، حيث تمكن ليفاندوفسكي من تسجيل الهدف الثالث لـ بولندا في الدقيقة 87.

وقال ليفاندوفسكي في تصريحات نشرها الموقع الرسمي لليويفا: “كان من الممكن أن نفوز بالمباراة، كنا نحاول تحقيق نتيجة إيجابية ثلاث مرات”.

وتأخرت بولندا في النتيجة بهدفين دون رد، قبل أن تسجل هدفين، ثم تقدمت المجر بهدف ثالث، ليتعادل الضيوف في النهاية.

وأضاف: “لكن من ناحية أخرى كان لدينا ثلاث جلسات تدريبية فقط مع المدرب الجديد، الشيء السلبي هو أن المجر سجلت ثلاث مرات و لا أشعر أن لديهم الكثير من الفرص”.

واختتم نجم بايرن ميونخ: “لكني آمل أن نسير في الاتجاه الصحيح”.

Could it be a case of the best is yet to come in regards to Birmingham City’s Ivan Sunjic?

Whilst he has clearly impressed a number of Birmingham City fans so far with his efforts, there is still the potential for his talents, and as a result the team, to flourish even further.

With an average of 2.3 tackles a game and 1.3 interceptions a game, he’s not afraid to put in a defensive shift when he needs to. Combine that with a pass completion percentage of 79.8% and you can see he’s got an ability to dictate play.

Alright, he’s not quite Andrea Pirlo in his prime, but it’s enough to keep the team ticking along.

If you have that one man in front of the defensive line taking care of the ‘dirty work’ and acting as the man to get moves started, then it allows your attacking players that little more freedom.

This is why the Blues should consider changing to a 4-3-3.

On the chalkboard

If you have Sunjic in front of that backline, you can insert two other central midfielders to control the middle of the park like Jude Bellingham and, whenever he finally breaks into the first team having spent what seemed like an eternity on trial, Josh McEachran.

As for the front three, as has been pointed out previously on FFC, if you carry on with Dan Crowley out on the right-wing, then all you need to do is figure out who is going to be playing on the other side of Lukas Jutkiewicz up top.

Whilst he’s currently injured at the moment, Jefferson Montero could be a prime candidate for that role, but in the meantime, you could place Odin Bailey or Fran Villalba there. Both of them scored last Friday so have staked their claims well in recent times.

You could even make the argument they should switch to more of a 4-2-3-1 on some occasions if they want that extra bit of protection when they play the bigger teams and have him partnered with another defensive-minded player like Gary Gardner.

Whichever way you look at it, Sunjic is the kind of pillar that Birmingham should be building a team around.

Whilst they may have a lot of options, and other names to choose from, he must be one of the first on every team sheet.

وأشاد بتعاون إدارة المريخ الكامل مع الأهلي ـ كعادة الأشقاء السودانيين على مر العصور ــ، مؤكدا أن العلاقة بين مصر والسودان تاريخية.

وقال إن بعثة الأهلي لم تواجه أي صعوبات منذ وصولها الأراضي السودانية، وهناك تنسيق كامل مع السفارة المصرية بالخرطوم، ومسئولي المريخ السوداني، في ضوء العلاقة الوطيدة بين الناديين.

وأوضح رئيس بعثة الأهلي في السودان أن مباراة المريخ ليست سهلة على الإطلاق، خاصة أن المنافس يمتلك تاريخا كبيرا وإمكانات قوية، تجعل من لقاء السبت المقبل صعبا على الفريقين.

وأشاد الدرندلي بموقف جماهير الأهلي التي استقبلت بعثة الفريق في مطار الخرطوم، مؤكدا أن جماهير النادي داخل وخارج مصر هي العامل الرئيسي والدافع المستمر نحو تحقيق البطولات، مؤكدا أن الأهلي سيبذل قصارى جهده في لقاء المريخ؛ من أجل العودة لمصر بالنقاط الثلاث.

How long is this story is going to run?

You imagine it’s going to get a lot of coverage when the teams meet again in January, but for now it’s still quite a talking point.

After the defeat to Millwall, Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani sent out a tweet in which he heavily criticised the EFL and their lack of VAR, insinuating that it was directly responsible in helping the Lions to victory when the home side were awarded a penalty and had defender Gaetano Berardi sent off, although the red card was later rescinded.

What’s been said?

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills spoke to Football Insider about the matter, and he thinks that the owner was out of order for the way he handled the situation:

“It’s not a great idea, is it? In this day and age it’s hard when people want to hear from the chairman but some of the best chairman and best owners are the ones who just stay silent. Let the manager, let the coach, let the team do the talking.

“Maybe it’s just a little bit of frustration from Radrizzani, of course he wants to do well, he wants his team to do well. Saying things on Twitter about officials and teams and players is never a good idea.”

What should be done?

And Danny Mills is exactly right here. There has to be a certain level of expectation and behavioural standard depending on how high up the hierarchy you go, and you can see a clear example in other sports.

Whilst it may be an unwritten rule, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has stated that “Owners, management personnel and coaches must be held to a higher standard than players” when it comes to incidents of ‘misconduct’, but the logic still applies here.

Opinions like this should be made by the players, coaches and to a lesser extent the fans. And if an owner or another high ranking member of the board does want to voice their views, then it should be in a more dignified manner than an angry rant on Twitter.

It’s not that we should be restricting people from having their views, in fact so long as they’re legal and non-offensive, the more the better because it encourages debate.

But there’s a time and a place for them to happen, and an angry tweet in the aftermath of a defeat is not the way to go about it for someone who should know better.

ليفاندوفسكي تعرض لإصابة مع منتخب بلاده بولندا في فترة التوقف الأخيرة، وأصدر بايرن ميونخ بيانًا يؤكد غيابه لمدة 4 أسابيع.

تقارير ألمانية خلال اليومين الماضيين، أشارت إلى أن ليفاندوفسكي يأمل في العودة أمام باريس سان جيرمان في لقاء الإياب، برغبة منه في تكثيف برنامجه التأهيلي.

شبكة “Sport1” الألمانية، أكدت أن بايرن ميونخ لا يريد المجازفة والدفع باللاعب، وطالبه بعدم التحامل على نفسه، حتى لا يفقده فيما تبقى من الموسم.

وأشارت التقارير إلى أن اللاعب لن يكون متاحًا لمواجهة باريس سان جيرمان في الإياب، حيث سيبدأ إعادة التأهيل بشكل طبيعي خلال الأسبوع المقبل، من أجل حماية مفصل الركبة.

Some Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after Wesley Hoedt revealed what Mark Hughes told the squad ahead of a game against Manchester City.Hoedt – who the Saints spent £15m on when signing the centre-back from Lazio – currently finds himself out on loan with Belgian side Royal Antwerp, and his revelation doesn’t cover Hughes in much glory.

The 25-year-old revealed in an interview with Voetbal International how Hughes told his Southampton players to ‘play like Liverpool’ ahead of their trip to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City.

The former Stoke and QPR manager’s master-plan didn’t quite turn out how he would’ve hoped, as his Saints side lost 6-1 to the Citizens.

“I played twice at that Etihad Stadium. Once, a very good match, [which finished] 2-1 in the ninetieth-minute. [We were] wiped out a second time 6-1. How they walked over us then was not normal.

“We always played with three in the back, but the day before the game, we were told that we had to play like Liverpool: 4-3-3 and with high pressure. Without training, that was not the right choice.”

Hoedt outlines how Hughes decided to make a drastic change with little time to implement it thoroughly, on the eve of a match against arguably the best team in the Premier League – that is a pretty ludicrous decision from Hughes, to say the least.

تريزيجيه يرى أن مبابي هو الوريث الشرعي لليونيل ميسي وكريستيانو رونالدو، ودعمه للفوز بالكرة الذهبية.

ولدى سؤاله عما إذا كان يرى اللاعب البالغ من العمر 22 عامًا مرشحًا مستقبليًا للكرة الذهبية، قال مهاجم فرنسا ويوفنتوس السابق في تصريحاته بصحبة “لو باريزيان”: “مبابي على الطريق الصحيح على أي حال”.

وأردف تريزيجيه: “إنه يؤكد نفسه على أنه الوريث الشرعي لميسي أو رونالدو، إنه أفضل من يحل محلهما”.

وأضاف تريزيجيه عن قدرة مبابي على الحسم في أهم المباريات: “أعترف أنه دائمًا ما يذهلني، المباريات الرائعة تخص اللاعبين الكبار، هذه ليست جملة تافهة،  لقد أثبت كيليان ذلك مرة أخرى ببراعة، هذه هي سمة العظماء”.

وأكد: “لقد كان الدافع أقوى في هذه المباريات الرفيعة المستوى، لقد رأينا ذلك بالفعل ضد برشلونة، إنه يعطي انطباعًا بالراحة، إنه قوي جسديًا وذهنيًا”.

وأتم تريزيجيه: “عندما يكون مبابي متوقعًا، يرد في الملعب، أحيانًا يكون الأمر أقل وضوحًا في الدوري الفرنسي، حتى لو كانت إحصاءاته تتحدث عنه أيضًا”.

وساهم مبابي في تأهل باريس سان جيرمان لربع نهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا هذا الموسم، حيث أحرز ثلاثة أهداف في الفوز على برشلونة(٤-١).

كما أحرز هدفين في شباك بايرن ميونخ بذهب ربع نهائي دوري الأبطال، على ملعب “آليانز آرينا”، في مواجهة حسمها باريس سان جيرمان بنتيجة(٣-٢).

أكد أيمن عبد العزيز، نجم الزمالك السابق، أنه تم عقد اتفاق بين نادي الترجي التونسي ومولودية الجزائر قبل مواجهتهما، على نتيجة المباراة لإقصاء الفارس الأبيض، لافتا إلى أن تحرك الإدارة لتقديم شكوى لدى الاتحاد الإفريقي لن يجدي نفعًا.

وودع الزمالك أمس بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا، رغم فوزه الكبير على تونجيث السنغالي برباعية مقابل هدف، وذلك بعد إنتهاء مباراة الترجي والمولدية بالتعادل الإيجابي بهدف لكل الفريق، وحصول الفريق الجزائري على نقطة تأهله إلى دور ربع نهائي المسابقة القارية.

وقال أيمن عبد العزيز في تصريحات خاصة لـ”بطولات”: “الجميع شاهد تواطؤ الترجي مع مولودية الجزائر، العالم كله شاهد على ذلك بما فيهم الاتحاد الإفريقي، حدث اتفاق بين الناديين على النتيجة، لكن لن يستطيع أحد إثبات ذلك، في النهاية الزمالك ودع البطولة، وعلى الفارس الأبيض أن يركز في بطولتي الدوري والكأس، ولا يجب أن نركض وراء الوهم”.

وتابع: “لن يستمع أحد لشكوى الزمالك، الملف أغلق ولن يتم النظر له، وتحرك الإدارة هو شكلي فقط لحفظ ماء الوجه أمام الجماهير، لأنهم لن يستطيعوا إثبات تواطؤ الترجي والمولودية”.

وأضاف: “لن يلوم أحد فريق الترجي على أدائه، لأن الرد ببساطة سيكون هذه طريقة اللعب المناسبة لي، وكان يجب أن أريح عدد من اللاعبين لأنني ضمنت التأهل”.

وواصل: “ما حدث في مباراة الترجي ومولودية الجزائر فضيحة كروية بكل المقاييس، لكن لن يستطيع الزمالك إثبات عكس ذلك”.

وانتقل نجم الزمالك السابق للحديث عن أزمة حكم مباراة الزمالك والأهلي القادمة، قائلا: “اتحاد الكرة يفتعل أزمة، المتعارف عليه أن المباراة لحساسيتها تدار بطاقم تحكيم أجنبي، ولو أديرت بمصري فلن يقبل أي طرف نتيجة اللقاء، كان يجب على اتحاد الكرة تخطي هذا الأمر، خاصة وأنه لا توجد خلافات حاليا بين الناديين”.

وعن احتياجات الزمالك للموسم المُقبل: “الزمالك يحتاج مهاجم جيد بنفس مقومات مصطفى محمد، رغم أنه صعب، أتمنى أن ينضم نبيل عماد دونجا للزمالك، أو إيريك تراوري، ولو الزمالك يفكر في ضم مهاجم قوي عليه التعاقد مع محمود وادي لاعب بيراميدز”.

وواصل: “إحراز مروان حمدي لهدفين في مباراة أمس أمام تونجيث السنغالي ليس مقياسا لنقول إنه مهاجم جيد، لأن المباراة كانت سهلة والفريق السنغالي ضعيف فنيا”.

واختتم: “سيف الجزيري مهاجم جيد، ولكنه ليس المهاجم الأجنبي الذي يلعب لنادي الزمالك”.

Alongside the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City are working on plans to build a brand new ground inside the campus – rumoured to cost an estimated £300m.

According to the Sun, The Blues have reportedly been given the go-ahead by Manchester City Council to start planning for the project – which is to build a state-of-the-art 21,000-seater on the Etihad Campus.

The venue, according to reports, will host many prestigious events such as concerts, NBA games and UFC showdowns along with standard football matches.

According to recent estimates, City’s new stadium plans, will take close to three years to finish – should approval for its construction be granted.

However, a section of the public that is not too pleased are private business owners – who claim the new ground, built inside the £200m Etihad Campus, could take away potential custom from them.
